The Velvet Underground and Nico was The Velvet Underground's influential 1967 debut album. The album was released in March 1967 by Verve Records.
This is the Norman Dolph demo recorded in April of 1966, in a decrepit New York City recording studio, Scepter Studios. Three of the songs, "I'm Waiting for the Man", "Venus in Furs" and "Heroin", were re-recorded during a stay in Hollywood later in 1966.
In 2002, this newly found acetate demo recording of the album containing unreleased takes and mixes resurfaced. The LP was bought by collector Warren Hill of Montreal, Canada in September, 2002 at a flea market in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City for $0.75 Hill put the album up for auction on eBay and was successfully sold on December 16, 2006 for $25,200.
